video LEGO® Train Crash Take One

Here is my first attempt at using a GoPro to whiz through my Lego City on a Lego 60052 Cargo Train. Unfortunately it knocked over a piece of the train station and crashed in to it later which would cause a nasty accident for the passengers and residents of my Lego City!

My Lego City layout is based in a spare room where I live. I don’t use tables because if I have it all on the floor then I can extend the train track layout so that it runs through the rest of my home. Currently it does just that, but what lies around the corner remains a mystery for now!

I guess the design defect in this model was that the camera poked out of the bogie too far at one side and hit the supporting pillar at the side of the track which then caused to the platform’s roof to collapse. Fortunately there were no injuries and this was only a test run. No minifigures were harmed in the making of this video!

I’ve got a few Lego train sets but the cargo train is my favourite, along with the high speed passenger train. The item numbers for these sets are LEGO City 60052 Cargo Train and LEGO 60051 High Speed Passenger Train. I have joined a few Passenger Train sets together to make a train that is five carriages long. It took a while to do that because I like to wait until LEGO sets are on sale or reduced before I buy them. I did the same with the Lego Cargo Train which is a bit more expensive but also includes a lot more train track compared to set 60051.

I also have Lego City 60098 Heavy Haul Train, which I like but it looks a bit more industrial than 60052 does. I do like the carriages that come with the Heavy Haul Train set though because it includes one which you can fill with studs or small pieces to represent coal.

All of my Lego trains use Power Functions which means they run off batteries. The batteries last a few hours but the power dwindles and so the train gradually slows down but I also have one of Lego’s Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box 8878 units which is great. The battery lasts a long time and the power remains fairly consistent until it needs to be recharged. Here is a link to it if you want to have a look, it is expensive and you have to buy a charger separately so I could only afford to buy one http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/LEGO-Power-Functions-Rechargeable-Battery-Box-8878

The Lego City 60050 Train Station set was often reduced to so I have a few of those around my layout which is nice because I like the consistency it brings.

Pretty soon I’ll do a walk through of my Lego city since it can all fly past very quickly on a train ride. In the mean time see if you can spot some of these sets as the train whizzes by!

I buy most of my LEGO® from the LEGO® Store when they have promotions and I like to check the prices at Amazon, Smyths Toys and John Lewis too in case I can find a better price or promotion.

Be sure to shop around, check prices and find the best deal for you!

LEGO® Store USA  or  LEGO® Store UK – I always check the official LEGO® online store because they often have promotions such as a free polybag with purchase, however I find that delivery can be slower than Amazon.

Amazon USA or Amazon UK – I usually find Amazon has the lowest prices and since I have their Prime membership I get next day delivery too. However, be sure to shop around because the LEGO® Shop, while usually full price, often has free gift with purchase promotions!

Smyths Toys UK– I find delivery is very fast and they often have voucher codes so I like to check this store too. If you’re lucky enough to live near an actual Smyths Toys store you might be able to find some bargains because I sometimes see some amazing LEGO® offers that are only available in store and not online!

John Lewis UK – I love shopping at John Lewis because it is a nice store and they also price match. I have found some exclusive sets at John Lewis too.

I use Apple iMovie and Apple Final Cut Pro to make my videos.

My camera is a Pentax KS-1 DSLR and I also use an iPhone 6 Plus. Some of the LEGO® train rides through my city are filmed using a GoPro Hero 4 Silver.

Most my videos are filmed in and around London where I live.
